Badami-Aihole-Pattadakkal Photo Feature

After visting glorious Hampi some time back, I knew that the trio of Badami, Pattadakkal & Aihole was to follow soon. Made me wait for almost 2 years, but we finally made  the visit in September 2012. All three places have their own identity – while the caves of Badami are mesmerizing, Aihole takes you through centuries of development in temple architecture. Pattadakkal tops it up with a fine blend of North-Indian (Nagara) and South-Indian (Dravid) styles of temple architecture. Pattadakkal is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On our way to Aihole we also stopped by at the Banashankari temple. The temple chariot and a dipmala adjoining the lake outside the temple are worth the visit.Aihole is a personal favourite, since the Durga temple is a structure you can keep staring at, for hours together. The caves of Badami offer one of the finest examples of cave sculptures, and the calmness and serenity of a quiet afternoon at the Bhootnath temple is unmatched. The photo feature follows
